Yangon/ Bagan (flight) | ETD 0800/ETA 0920
Bagan transfer and sightseeing

Early morning, your driver takes you to the airport for your domestic flight to the land of pagodas Bagan: a unique archaeological zone, one of the richest historical sites in Asia and the main attraction in Myanmar. It is considered by historians, archaeologists and photographers alike as one of Asia’s holiest cities along with Varanasi and Angkor Wat as it displays a spectacular collection of Buddhist sculptures, lavishly decorated temples and pagodas with mural paintings and plaster carvings from the 11th to 13th centuries.

During its Golden Age in the 12th century, Bagan was known as “the City of Four Million Pagodas”.

While Kublai Khan and several massive earthquakes have reduced that number drastically, what remains is quite incredible

Visit the most important pagodas including: Shwezigon Pagoda, the first monument built in pure Myanmar style, a prototype for later pagodas. One of the oldest and loveliest temples, it remains a place of devotion for the Burmese; Ananda Temple, a masterpiece of the early style temple architecture. Built in 1066, the gilded and whitewashed Ananda is among the most elegant temples, with deli- cate decorations in glazed tiles along its base and terraces.

Don’t miss the chance to visit some local craft business such as a family run lacquerware factory or have a chit-chat with a sand painting artist.  Visit the small and lovely villages surrounding Bagan, stop and have tea with the the shade and immerse yourself in the serenity of this timeless place.

Treat of the day: We will provide a local touch at the tea shop.

For sunset, our guide will take you to a hidden spot. You will be enchanted by the atmosphere of this magical place.

Inle Lake sightseeing

Inle Lake fishermen, Myanmar

Spend a full day aboard a boat exploring the breathtaking lake. You will visit a colorful market, which is held in rotation once in every five days around the lake. It is one of the best opportunities to see hill tribe people coming from the surrounding mountain villages to sell their products, to buy provisions.

Then, your boat enters the main river that feeds and supports the lake, towards the Indein temple complex, often referred to as a mini Angkor. After a short and pleasant walk through a bamboo forest, the mysterious monuments appear, some still covered in vegetation. The internal wall of the ruins, dating back to 1054 AD and nearby shrines will take you back in time and make you feel like explorers. In the afternoon, visit Impawkhone, an endearing silk weaving village, a traditional blacksmith workshop, a cheroot (the Burmese cigars) workshop and stroll in the surrounding villages. (For the cat lovers, this village has a house/ refuge with over 30 Burmese cats!)

If shopping doesn’t tickle your fancy, you can head out to vibrant Chinatown or the colorful Indian Quarter and check out that busy part of town or take a stroll along the waterfront to see well preserved colonial buildings or simply stop at a teashop and mingle with the locals.

The best time to visit Shwedagon Pagoda is at sunset, when the sun shines on the gold leaves and all the locals gather to pray; this moment of the day always sets a very special atmosphere.
